Weyside Urban Village – May 2025

Welcome to the latest update on the Weyside Urban Village regeneration project provided by Guildford Borough Council.

New toucan crossing

We started work on 6 May to install a new toucan crossing on the A320 Woking Road. This type of crossing allows pedestrians and cyclists to cross at the same time. That’s why it is named “toucan,” as “two-can cross.” This design is safer for everyone crossing the road.

The new crossing forms part of a series of planned highways improvements as part of the regeneration. These will take place over the next three years. In 2025 we plan to start the following schemes:

  • Bellfields Road: we are widening the road for better traffic flow, improving the footpaths near the school, adding a new school drop-off point and rearranging the parking layout.
  • Bellfields Junction: the junction is being upgraded, we are adding in a new bus lane and bus shelter, a new pedestrian crossing and improving the footpaths.
  • Slyfield Green: A new one-way system near Parrot Court is being introduced to help with traffic flow and we are adding parking lay-bys and green spaces with planting and trees.

The new crossing forms part of a series of highway improvements that have been planned as part of the regeneration.

Details and timelines for these projects are still being finalised. We’ll share more information as soon as we can.

Update on Burpham Court Farm Nature Reserve

We’ve contracted Blakedown Landscapes to create the new nature reserve. At the moment, they are working within the boundary of the new nature reserve. You may notice some increased activity, construction workers, contractor vehicles, and deliveries. Later this year work will start on the car park and pedestrian crossing. There may be some temporary traffic lights on Clay Lane so the work can be done safely. Residents will be kept informed and notified in advance of these works.

Work starts on the new council depot

We have contracted McLaren Construction to build the new council depot. They have started piling for the new foundations for the building. This involves driving piles deep into the ground which will support the building. This may create noise. Once this is finished, they will start on the main buildings. Works are due to be completed by the summer 2026.

Thank you

We understand that these works may cause some disruption, but they are essential to the Weyside regeneration project which is delivering new homes and long-term benefits to the community.

Thank you for your patience.
