Weyside Urban Village – December 2024
We’ve made a lot of progress with the development of the Weyside Urban Village in 2024. There are also lots of exciting plans for next year. Here’s the last roundup of this year as we look forward to 2025.
Progress in 2024
In 2024 we have been laying the foundation for the Weyside urban regeneration scheme. The project is reshaping the local landscape and will provide much needed housing. Planned amenities, parks and open spaces will benefit the community and the environment. The map highlights our progress so far.
Project milestones
- Phase 1: planning permission approved in September 2023 for 81 new homes.
- Thames Water Sewage Treatment Facility: civil construction is near 80%, but overall construction nearer 45%.
- Phase 2: clearance and infrastructure works are currently underway.
- Aldershot Road Allotments: 35 new allotments delivered in January 2024, enhancing community gardening spaces.
- Bellfields Road Allotments: upgraded with 10 new allotments, fencing, and facilities in March 2024.
- New council depot: planning permission secured in July 2024. Site clearance works have been completed in preparation for the new depot to be constructed.
- North Moors Allotments: major improvements completed in October 2024, including 78 new allotments, community buildings, and sheds.
- Woking Road: house demolished to prepare the site for future highways improvements starting in 2025.
- Phase 3: planning permission granted in November 2024 for 187 new homes.

Plans for 2025
Looking ahead, we will focus on:
- Burpham Court Farm Nature Reserve: an area equal to 70 football pitches will be transformed into a new nature reserve for residents and visitors.
- New council depot: a major investment that relocates several council services into one site. This will improve efficiency and reduce running costs for the benefit of residents.
- Highway improvements: helping to ease existing traffic delays and remove any potential impact of the new development. These works will also include new footpaths, cycleways and public transport links to improve walking, cycling and bus journeys.
More information on our 2025 work programme will be provided in future editions.
